Roulez vert grants are back: Businesses can cover up to 50% of eligible expenses.

04/04/2025

The Roulez vert financial assistance program is now being offered again by the Gouvernement du Québec to encourage the acquisition of electric vehicles and the installation of charging stations.

The program is open to individuals, companies, organizations and municipalities in Québec with the goal to provide financial assistance to allow for more EV charging infrastructure within the province and at multifamily buildings.

The window has reopened as of April 1st, 2025 and will remain open until December 31, 2026. Like many incentive programs, funds are limited and it is encouraged to get applications in as soon as possible to ensure funding is available.

Read on to learn more about how this program works and the steps you should take to adopt EV charging with incentives covering up to 50% of costs – or $5,000 per connector.

Purchase and installation of charging stations

The financial assistance paid to purchase and install multiple dwelling building charging stations is equivalent to the lesser of the following amounts:

  • 50% of the eligible expenses;
  • or $5,000 per connector or charging station.

The financial assistance granted cannot exceed $5,000 per connector

Maximum annual amount

The maximum amount of the financial assistance granted eligible building per fiscal year is set at:

  • $20,000 for a building with 3 to 9 dwelling units;
  • $40,000 for a building with 10 to 19 dwelling units;
  • $49,000 for a building with 20 or more dwelling units.

Types of eligible applicants

The financial assistance application for a charging station for a multiple dwelling building must be submitted by:

  • the owner of a multiple dwelling building;
  • a property developer;
  • a property manager;
  • a property owner;
  • a syndicate of co-owners;
  • a business, a municipality, or an organization that has acquired an electric vehicle used by an employee who lives in a multiple dwelling building.

Types of eligible buildings

To be eligible, the building where the charging stations are installed:

  • must comprise five or more dwelling units. If the building was built before October 1, 2018, it can comprise only three or four dwelling units;
  • can be for residential use or mixed use, e.g., residential and commercial use;
  • must have parking spaces grouped in a common area;
  • must be situated in Québec.

Types of eligible expenses

The expenses must be incurred in a project that includes the acquisition and the installation of multiple dwelling building charging stations.

The expenses submitted must be necessary and justifiable. They must be directly related to the acquisition of and installation work pertaining to multiple dwelling building charging stations. Eligible expenses include:

  • the cost of purchasing or leasing long term the eligible charging stations;
  • the cost of installing the eligible charging stations and the requisite electricity supply infrastructure, i.e., labour and the necessary material;
  • the cost of installing electrical supply and distribution infrastructure for the charging stations that will be installed subsequently to meet future charging needs (oversizing).
  • professional honoraria to design charging solutions and prepare the plans and specifications;
  • the cost of acquiring a device or software to manage the energy consumed to charge electric vehicles;
  • the cost of the permits required to carry out the installation work.

The eligible expenses must have been paid when the financial assistance application is submitted, except for the remaining charging station leasing costs.
