DTE Electric Rebate Offers up to $5,000 per Level 2 EV Charger Port to Multifamily Properties in Southeastern Michigan

Looking to install EV charging at a multifamily property in Detroit? DTE Electric is offering a rebate program worth up to $5,000 per Level 2 port to all multifamily properties and up to $14,400 per Level 2 port for income-eligible multifamily properties in Southeastern Michigan (including Detroit).
Here’s a look at what the program includes and how you can apply.
What is included in the rebate?
DTE Electric will cover the costs of eligible multifamily properties up to $5,000 per port and up to $14,400 for ports in income-eligible multifamily properties in their service area.
Rebates are limited and will be provided to customers on a first-come, first-served basis.
What are the requirements?
To be eligible for the Multifamily EV Charger Rebate, the site host must meet the following requirements:
- Be a non-residential customer of DTE Electric in good standing;
- Have the right to install, own, operate, and maintain EVSE(s) on the Site, which must reside within DTE Electric territory
- Agree to install, fund, own, operate and maintain new EVSE(s) for a period of at least 5 years, using a separate meter dedicated to powering the EVSE(s) and committing to 97% uptime for each installed charger.
To be eligible for the Low-Income Multifamily EV Charger Rebate, the site host must also meet the following requirements:
- The property is owned and managed by a public entity, such as the Housing Commission
- The property receives government subsidization, such as the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit
- The property has at least 40% of their residents participating in the Housing Voucher Program
Further Requirements for both programs:
- A minimum of two Level 2 ports must be installed per site
- Level 2 EVSE(s) must operate at minimum 11.5kW/48A output 5.
- Level 2 rebates will be limited to a maximum of 16 rebates per site.
- Site hosts must demonstrate tenant interest in installing EV chargers through tenant surveys, signed letters of interest, pre-commitments, past requests for EV charging, or data on the number of tenants with EVs.
- EVSE(s) will be visible and accessible for use by its primary residents and visitors except for safety and/or maintenance purposes.

When and how should I apply?
Eligible customers can apply to DTE Electric’s rebate program on the rebate program page.
The process encompasses seven steps that broadly fall into the following categories:
- Preliminary approval. At this stage, you submit your application and receive confirmation of acceptance by DTE.
- Charger installation. You complete the installation of the charging stations as per the requirements of the DTE rebate program.
- Complete the rebate form. With the work completed, you send proof of completion along to DTE.
- Final approval. With all necessary work completed on your part, DTE will verify that the work was completed as required by the program, send an email to confirm, and then process your rebate, which will be sent to you via check.
Typically, the rebate check should arrive within five weeks of your receipt of the DTE confirmation email at the end of the process.
