What you need to know about the Shell Recharge shutdown & how SWTCH can help
Shell Recharge, the software solution formerly known as “Greenlots” and operated by Shell Recharge, will soon end service for third-party operators, meaning current customers have until the end of April to secure a new solution.
The good news: We migrated more than 500 chargers from the Shell Recharge network to SWTCH in the past year, and we know that the process is simple and inexpensive. Even so, it’s important to take this time to evaluate potential replacement options carefully, both in terms of the software functionality and the ability of the provider to support you during the transition.
Here’s a look at what happened with Shell Recharge, what the migration process to a new solution will look like, and how SWTCH is prepared to help you move on to a new provider.

What happened? Shell Recharge is ending service for third-party operators
On December 30, 2024, Shell Recharge announced that it would be discontinuing its Shell Recharge EV charging solution for third-party operators. Current customers have until April 30, 2025, to secure a new solution.
What does this mean?
As of April 30, any charging stations that have not been migrated to a new solution will cease to function.
Any charging stations that have been migrated must also remove any stickers identifying them as belonging to the Shell Recharge network by this date.
How do I migrate my charging stations to a new solution?
Here’s the good news: Because Shell Recharge is OCPP-certified, migrating your charging station hardware to a new solution will be very easy to accomplish. You’ll just need to find a new OCPP-certified solution to adopt and work with your new provider to get your chargers ported over.
The only point likely to require a bit of time and expense is removing the Shell Recharge labels and changing the SIM cards in each charging station. This is something that will need to be done manually, requiring a site visit by a technician or by a member of your team. Swapping the cards will be very straightforward, though, and once completed, your charging stations should be ready to start operating under your new solution.
Will migrated charging stations work the way they did before?
As long as you select an EV charging platform that supports all the functionality you used with Shell Recharge, you should expect very little difference in the performance of your charging stations under your new solutions provider.
The administration toolkit and portal that you use to manage your stations will change, but the functionality of the hardware and the general charging experience should be much the same as they were before.
